District 4 – Mary Scofield-Phillips

An Effective Realtor with Economic Development on the Brain

Mary Scofield-Phillips has been in Pompano Beach since 1989. She started her family here, and bought her first single-family home with her husband, former commissioner Ed Phillips. She is a business and non-profit owner.

She was prompted to run for the commission seat because she felt that District 4 was being neglected. If elected, her top priorities are economic and business development, getting more grant funding for city projects, and improving the district’s aesthetics.

Some of her proposed projects include a microloan program for businesses, a business equipment grant program, a robust business incubator program, working with HUD to get more grants for job growth and development, and a community technical school that offers certification and licensing for students who don’t want to go to college.

Scofield-Phillips also wants to improve housing options in the city by allowing pre-fabricated “granny sheds” on homeowner’s property to alleviate the pressures of high rents and mortgages in the city.

She is a member of the Kendall Lakes Homeowners Association, Friends of the Library Northwest Branch, Markham Elementary PTA, Pompano Beach Chamber of Commerce, Pompano Beach Women’s Club, and others. She’s assisted in hosting several community events like the Annual Community Health & Wellness Fest, an Expungement One Stop at E. Pat Larkins Center, Annual Back-to-School Funday at Apollo Park, and the Smart Phone Workshop for Senior Citizens at E. Pat Larkins Center.

Scofield-Phillips has been endorsed by The Latino Vote, Former Commissioner Woodrow Poitier, Former Commissioner Ed Phillips, and other local leaders.
