Poetically Unapologetic by Sophia King is an emotional and inspiring collection of soulful poems which reveal social problems such as religious issues, love, pain, humanity, and relationships. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the gloriously written work that blows you away, shakes your mind, and forces you to think.
Most pages are written in a narrative structure. Each of them communicates social messages, experiences of life and pain. However, the tone that the author uses in her writing is honest, bold, inspiring and full of optimism that influences and changes the readers’ heart.
In “Beautifully Flawed,” the narrator tells us about her fear and rejection, which does not allow us to free ourselves and be what we aspired to be. We have to destroy our protective shield and leave the fear and rejection behind us. Most importantly, we need to accept ourselves as we are.
Loss of a loved one is described in a very vivid, realistic and emotional way in the short poem “Gone too soon”. “She gripped his dead, limp hand, trying to understand what went wrong, why he was gone too soon?” – This quote perfectly delivers the feeling of helplessness and confusion that the author tries to convey. I would recommend this book to those who seek hope, optimism, and strength in their lives. Purchase the book here.
