“Becoming ” is an autobiography book written by, Michelle Obama detailing her life and the incredible journey that possesses highs and lows from a humble beginning in the less stylish south Chicago to the magnificence of the American white house and her life as the first African American first lady. The book takes the reader through the distinct phases of her life: “becoming me, becoming us and becoming more “(Obama 2018). The aspects are not overt as the unconcealed leadership script but also her diaries that give the equivalents of leading an everyday life and not her life when assigned the roles of leadership. The first section addresses Michelle as a young black lady fighting against all the odds in the tough suburbs of Chicago shaped by strong family values instilled by her parents that natured her and the siblings.
Michelle has an aspiration to achieve a high level of education, but discouraged by her college counsellor and giving us the insight behind her sheer determination and ambition. Michelle offers a description of how she renounces the kernels of doubt by securing a place at Princeton and later becoming a part of the Harvard school of law. Like any other human being that possesses the human trait of self-doubt, Michelle admits that she was not sure to beat the wave of fear “I’m I good enough?” .Michelle is compelled to show what an African lady from a humble background in Chicago can do against the class with male dominance in school which where she refers herself to “poppy beans in a bowl of rice”(Obama 2018).
Her determination lands her a job as an associate in a big law firm. As she grapples her perception on life, he meets with Barrack Obama, who hired her. The book goes further to describe how their relationship started to bloom and looked at life from another standpoint. The final part of the book addresses how Michelle supports her husband in the successful campaign trails to becoming the 44th presidents of the United States as per (Obama 2018). The book brings to spotlight the challenges she underwent even after being in leadership and using her position for a noble cause. Her message in the book seeks to strengthen our inner voice in trying to enhance our emotional persuasions to achieve the highest standards. The title “Becoming” is captivating and implies progressive work, and that starting a journey of pursuing ambition is probably an endless expedition.
